Watching well-known, prominent models walk down the runway wearing the biggest brand names in the industry, you would without a doubt notice a repeating motif: transparent accessories. And while this is 2018 and not 1980, one cannot help but wonder if this trend is one that is going to be a favorite among the glitz and glam, or like many other trends from last year (ahem nose hair extensions), this too shall pass.
However, it seems the trend is taking itself up a notch by being utilized in the streets and on the go by a growing target market who love to show off their latest transparent purse or boots.
Kim Kardashian was suspected only to be following through with her supportive wife duties when she was spotted wearing the Yeezy PVC Wedge Mules out in public on several occasions, but the talent admitted to genuinely love the design and use of material.
“Side To Side” singer Ariana Grande also appeared to be a PVC-fan by posing a picture onto her Instagram account holding – what else? – a completely transparent bag.
Nonetheless, it was Chanel’s 2018 Spring/Summer that took things to a whole new level, as nearly every single accessory was entirely see-through. PVC boots, handbags, hats, gloves, and even capes made their debut, proving that the purpose of fashion is not to cover the entire body wearing them (not that we needed the reminder after the Naked Dress phenomenon).
Still, this raises an equally interesting and mind-boggling question that remained unanswered to this moment – what is the point of an accessory if you can only see through it?
These accessories enable us to embrace displaying things that are usually covered. And without hiding them under layers of material, no longer can our purses contain private items you’d rather not have out in the open, for example.
